Good news for our environmental efforts: Panama is one of the only three carbon-negative countries in the world.
But what does it mean to be carbon negative? It means that the country’s forests, mangroves, trees, seagrasses, and other natural ecosystems absorb more harmful gases than those emitted by human activities within the country.
The purpose of signing this declaration is to renew the commitment to reducing or eliminating the factors that negatively impact climate change — a global issue that affects all of us equally. At the same time, it aims to encourage more nations to join this effort, where everyone must do their part.
The global goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, a monumental task that these three countries aim to lead through initiatives, education, and strategic actions — all in support of the international community in a responsibility we all share.
